This one-day course is designed as an introduction for potential new beekeepers or beekeepers with less than 2 years’ experience. The morning is a classroom lecture, and the afternoon is a practical demonstration within our hives to allow you "hands on" experience. We will cover all aspects of what you should be looking for at your hive inspection so that you understand the life cycle and learn to “read” your bees. Protective clothing will be supplied if required but please bring stout boots or "wellies” and a packed lunch The course will run 10am till 4pm £30.00 per person
A Queen Bee can lay up to 2000 eggs a day!
A queen is constantly attended to by a “court” of worker bees. These workers feed and groom her. They also carry away her waste and actually digest her food for her.
A queen honey bee lives two to three years, on average, with a few living up to five years.
Most species of bees can sting, but they are considered docile and are not likely to be a threat to people unless disturbed.
beekeepers sometimes mark a queen honey bee with paint to better track her location.
